Steve Durian finished his successful career with the Augustana men's wrestling program with a 43-19 overall record. After competing in just matches in 1966-67, Durian had his first and only losing record his sophomore season before winning 16 times in 1968-69 with just seven losses. Durian had a monster senior campaign, posting a 20-4 record and earning All-American status with teammate Tim Dodge in 1970. He was also one of five conference champions for the Vikings in 1970.
Durian went out for football his freshman season and wore the No. 14, which was then worn by Ken Anderson years later before being retired by Augustana. Durian was recruited as a 137-pound wrestler but before he arrived on campus grew into the next upper weight classes. They were two returning conference champions in the 145 and 152 classes at Augustana who he mentions taught him a lot about college wrestling.
