Augustana College Athletics

Dr. Felix Hanson was a two-sport standout, competing in both football and gymnastics. He was one of eleven gridders picked to the all-time All-Augustana football team in 1930 by the Augustana Observer and the Viking coaching staff. He also served as supervisor for Augustana’s gymnastics team and later directed the Red Oak, Iowa, gymnastics club.

After leaving Augustana in 1900, he entered the ministry and became a prominent figure in the Augustana Synod. For years he was widely recognized for his contributions as President of the New York Conference, which included the entire eastern seaboard outside of New England. He died in 1956.
