George Lenc was a 1939 graduate who started for four years in football, basketball, and track and for one year in baseball. Through his four years of hard athletic work, Lenc earned 13 letters. Â
Some of his many honors include:Â All-Conference and All-State end in football from 1936-38, three years on the Illinois College Conference Mythical Little All-American football team, football Co-Captain in 1938, Most Outstanding and Valuable Player in conference in 1936 and 1938, and a record holder in the high jump and javelin. Â
Lenc enlisted in the army on his 24th birthday, March 17, 1941, but after having achieved the rank of sergeant with the 123rd field artillery, he requested a transfer to the air force. He was completing his cadet training as a bombardier and navigator in Spokane, Washington when his bomber crashed near Pasco, Washington at 12:30 in the afternoon on November 16, 1942. Lenc and another member of the four-man crew were killed.
Lenc’s many achievements have earned him the right to be inducted into the Hall of Honor.Â
