Every once in a while an athlete is defined by one moment or one event. That certainly could be the case with Juli Weber. An outstanding all-around performer in track & field, she enjoyed a Hall of Fame career during the four years between 1987-91. She was one of the ringleaders of a Viking program that won two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin team titles (1988 & 1991) during her tenure. Twice she earned NCAA Division III All-American honors and she left Augustana as a school record holder in three relays and she was on the top-five list in three individual events.
However, it was her performance over the weekend of May 3-4, 1991 at the CCIW meet in Bloomington, Illinois that sets her apart. A year earlier, the Vikings had fallen just 12.5 points short of claiming the conference crown. That was something that Weber, a tremendous competitor, had trouble digesting. As one of the captains on the 1991 team, she made it a point that the Vikings would not fall short again.
She was everywhere that weekend, winning two individual events, taking second, fifth and sixth in three others, and adding a leg to a place winning relay team. She claimed the 100 hurdles in :16.30 and the high jump with a leap of 5’ 5 ¼”, placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 35’ 7 ¼”, was fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.76, and took sixth in the javelin with a toss of 97’ 5”. Somewhere in the mix she also found time to run the third leg on the 400 relay team that placed third in :50.9.
When it all settled, she had scored 31.5 points all by herself and she would have placed sixth in the team standings with that figure. It was no surprise that she was named the “Most Outstanding Athlete” in the meet as Augustana set a conference record in winning with 234 points.
Weber had the whole package. She was a very versatile performer and she was one of the fiercest competitors to ever pull on an Augustana singlet. Not surprisingly, her teammates voted her the team’s Most Valuable Performer after the 1991 campaign.
She won the CCIW title in the heptathlon in 1990 and earned All-American honors in the high jump in both 1990 and 1991. She still holds school records in the indoor pentathlon with 2,632 points and the outdoor high jump with a leap of 5’ 7 ¼”. Nearly 20 years later, she still ranks in the top 10 on six of the school’s all-time “best marks” listing (three outdoors and three indoors).
A 1991 graduate of Augustana with a degree in biology/pre-medicine, she received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from the National College of Chiropractic. For the past 13 years she has been the co-owner of Weber/Micetich Chiropractic Clinic along with her husband Jon, himself a former standout track athlete on the Augustana men’s team. The couple has two children (Christian and Julian) with a third child due on the date of her induction into the Tribe of Vikings Hall of Fame.
“I received a great education at Augustana,” she commented. “My professors were great. I also met my best friend at Augustana and he happens to be my husband Jon.”
