Men's swimming wins fourth straight championship; women finish second

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings swimming team wrapped up the fourth and final day. The men's team won their fourth straight CCIW Championships, while the women finished second.

On the men's side, Matthew Meyer finished fourth in the 1650 free with a time of 16:39.49, and Ethan Herstedt followed in fifth at 16:47.81. Tyler Leslie was crowned champion in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.73. Emanuel Anguelov clocked in third at 1:52.83, and Cesar Castillo followed in fourth at 1:57.69. In the 100 free, Oskar Bannister claimed first with a time of 45.83, and Lucas Rettig touched at 46.21 seconds behind for second. 

In the 200 breaststroke, Mark Addison came out on top with a time of 2:00.45, and Michael Garland followed at 2:04.59 for second. Carter Lavold placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.21, and Ian Palmroos clocked in fifth at 2:01.57.

Leslie, Anguelov, Rettig, and Bannister were victorious in the 400 free relay, clocking in a time of 3:02.95.

For the women, Giselle Koonce placed sixth in the 1650 free with a time of 18:37.46, while Avery Spacek followed with a time of 18:41.50. Mara Walker grabbed eighth at 18:58.20, and Victoria Krol clinched eighth at 18:58.71. In the 200 backstroke, Natalie Salazar placed third with a time of 2:09.37, and Sammie Knox secured eighth at 2:18.22. Kendle Mihm came out on top in the 100 free with a time of 52.93, Mya Pheneger finished third at 53.73, and Sophia Warren followed in fourth, clocking in at 54.25. 

In the 200 breaststroke, Ava Kauffeld placed sixth with a time of 2:34.20. Savannah Shapley clocked in third in the 200 fly with a final time of 2:14.36, and Charlotte Vogen placed fifth at 2:17.53. 

Warren, Petra Evans, Pheneger, and Mihm conquered the 400 free relay with a final time of 3:32.87. 

Following the event, Addison was named the Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Meet. Addison and Mihm were the recipients of the Elite 26 Award, and Coach Ramsey Vens was named the Men's Swimming & Diving Coach Staff of the Year. Additionally, Sam Kulisek and Genevieve Ryan earned the RESPECT Award.
