Women's Lacrosse falls to North Central, Lock Up No. 3 Seed in CCIW Tournament

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team battled with North Central on Saturday afternoon, falling 14–9 in CCIW action at home. Despite the loss, the Vikings locked up the No. 3 seed in the CCIW Tournament thanks to tiebreakers and will move on to postseason play.

Augustana got off to a strong start, with Colleen Chiavola opening the scoring to give the Vikings an early 1–0 lead. Em Dornbusch then finished a man-up chance off a Madison Langewisch assist to make it 2–1, and Anna Davison added another man-up goal off a Chiavola feed to put Augustana ahead 3–2. That would be the Vikings' final lead of the day. North Central answered to tie it at 3–3, then used a four-goal run at the top of the second quarter to break things open. Looking for some momentum, it was Becca Lacina who took a pass from Davison and buried it in the back of the net with jsut 22 seconds in the quarter, making it a manageable 7-4 deficit at the break.

The Vikings kept competing in the second half. Halfway through the third, Chiavola added her second goal of the afternoon to give Augustana a much-needed boost. In the fourth quarter, Langewisch connected on a pass from Lacina for another goal, Davison finished her second off a Langewisch assist, and Grace Danek scored off a Chiavola pass. Lacina then added her second goal of the game to close out the four-goal fourth quarter attack by the Vikings.

Chiavola led Augustana with two goals and an assist, while Davison and Lacina each finished with two goals. Langewisch added a goal and two assists, Dornbusch scored once on a man-up opportunity, and Danek also found the back of the net. Lanie Cecala finished with six saves in goal.

The Vikings close out the regular season at 9–7, 2–3 in CCIW play. For the first time since 2017, the Vikings find themselves in the CCIW Tournament. They hit the road on Wednesday, April 29 for the semifinals against Carthage. First draw is set for 5 p.m.
