KENOSHA, Wis -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team finished its historic season on Wednesday in the quarterfinal game of the CCIW Tournament against the Carthage Firebirds by a score of 21-1.
The Firebirds took the early advantage after a quick goal after 45 seconds of play. Carthage tallied two more later in the quarter before
Colleen Chiavola found the back of the net off a pass from
Madison Langewisch to make a 3-1 game. The home team closed the first quarter with three more goals to take a 7-1 lead. The Firebirds ran away with the upper hand in the second quarter, outscoring Augie 7-0 to create a 14-1 game heading into the halftime break.
Returning to action, Carthage held the Vikings' offense for the remainder of the competition and put up seven more goals to conclude the game 21-1.
Two Vikings saw attempts in the first quarter from Chiavola and Langewisch, while
Kendall Phelan caused four turnovers and won four draw controls. In the net,
Eva Karjalahti saved five attempts in their 30 minutes, and
Lanie Cecala saved one shot.
With the loss, Augie concludes the season 9-8 and 2-3 in conference play.
