Augustana College Athletics

WAUKESHA, Wis. – A fast start gave the Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team an early spark, but a long run by the Carroll Pioneers in the middle quarters proved to be the difference in a 16–4 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Connor Schlachter got the Vikings on the board midway through the first, firing a shot to the back of the net to put Augustana on top, 1–0. From there, the Pioneers took over. Carroll scored three times in the final minutes of the opening quarter to close out the frame 3-1. The Pioneers found six more goals in the second quarter, and owned a 9-1 halftime lead. 

In the third, the Vikings got on the board once more when Nik Schaafsma got loose for a goal off a feed from Jamar Taylor to cut into the lead, but Carroll found two goals in the last five minutes of the period. The fourth quarter was the best for the Vikings. Trading goals with the Pioneers, Schaafsma tacked on another goal and Schlachter picked up his second of the day, this time off a dish from Eddie Resendez. Carroll closed out the game on a 3-0 scoring run, locking up the 16-4 victory. 

Schaafsma and Schlachter each finished with two goals to lead the Vikings, while Taylor added two assists, four ground balls, and six caused turnovers. Resendez added an assist and a team-high seven ground balls. In goal, Hagan Quigley turned aside 20 shots while facing steady pressure throughout the afternoon.

Augustana falls to 3-10, 0-3 in CCIW play. They return home for their penultimate regular season matchup against Illinois Wesleyan, on Wednesday, April 22. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
