ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team sealed a 6-4 victory over the Elmhurst Bluejays on Saturday.
The Vikings fired first in the first quarter after 50 seconds of action, after
Colleen Chiavola found the back of the net off a pass from
Anna Davison. Elmhurst drew the score even four minutes later, and the teams stayed scoreless for another five minutes.
Madison Langewisch scored with 5:45 on the clock to retake the advantage, and Chiavola closed the quarter with a successful shot to make a 3-1 game after 15 minutes of play.Â
In the second, the Bluejays drew the score even at 3-3 after two quick goals within a minute of each other.
Kritika Chitnis pulled the Vikings ahead once more, with Chiavola notching the assist with 9:45 on the clock. The Vikings attempted three additional shots, but the score remained 4-3 entering the halftime break.
Returning to action, Augie collected back-to-back goals from Langewisch and
Leah Greiber to pull the difference to 6-3. The Vikings held Elmhurst scoreless with just three shot attempts through the third period.
In the fourth, the Bluejays found the lone goal after two minutes of action. The Vikings saw six attempts, but the score remained at 6-4.
Four Vikings scored in the win, with Chiavola and Langewisch leading with two. Chitnis caused three turnovers, and Langewisch won five draw controls. In the net,
Lanie Cecala secured four saves in her 60 minutes in goal.
With the win, Augie improves to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in CCIW play. The Vikings will be back in action on April 18 at Carroll.Â
