Women's lacrosse drops road matchup at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the Carroll Pioneers on Saturday by a score of 22-4.

In a tightly contested opening quarter, Becca Lacina put Augie on the board just 30 seconds in with a free-position goal. Carroll answered a minute later to even the score, but Lacina struck again to give the Vikings a 2–1 edge.

The teams continued to trade goals, as Madison Langewisch finished a pass from Lacina to make it 3-2. Carroll responded with back-to-back scores to take a 4–3 lead, but Langewisch found the net again from Colleen Chiavola to tie the game at 4-4. Carroll closed the quarter with a late goal to lead 5-4. The home team ran with the lead in the second with a 7-0 run to take the advantage 12-4 entering the halftime break.

The Pioneers carried that momentum into the second half, adding four more goals in the third quarter while holding Augie scoreless to extend the lead to 16-4. In the final period, Carroll scored six more times to secure the 22-4 victory.

Lacina and Langewisch scored two apiece, while Langewisch won five draw controls and Chiavola caused three turnovers.

With the loss, Augie moves to 8-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Vikings will be back in action with a midweek road game at Illinois Wesleyan on April 22.
