ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the Hamline Pipers on Saturday by a score of 16-5.
In the opening period, Hamline quickly put up two goals to obtain the early advantage. After five minutes of scoreless action, the Piper tallied two more, with Augie attempting two shots from
Anna Davison and
Madison Langewisch. The Vikings got on the board with 1:14 on the clock in a woman-down free-positional goal from Colleen Chivola to create a 4-1 game after 15 minutes of action. Hamline outscored the Vikings 8-0 In the second period, to lead 13-1 entering the halftime break.
Returning to action,
Kendall Phelan picked up a ground ball on a turnover and put the shot in the back of the net to get within 10. The Pipers immediately followed with a successful shot straight off the draw control. Five minutes later, the Vikings collected another free-position goal from Madison Langeiwsh, but once again Hamline scored off the draw control. Hamline closed the period with another goal to lead 15-3 heading into the final period of the game.
Augie outscored the Pipers 2-1 in the fourth with all goals being within four minutes.
Jackie McNair scored the first goal on a free-position shot before the Pipers scored their final goal.
Becca Lacina closed out the game with a woman-up goal to make a final score of 16-5.
Five Vikings scored in the game, and four different players caused a turnover. Lacina won four draw controls, and Eva Karjalahti saved 12 shots in goal.
With the loss, Augie moves to 4-2 on the season and will be back in action on March 11 with a road game at Beloit.
