BELOIT, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team earned a 14-4 victory over the Beloit Buccaneers on Wednesday, to cap off the four-game road stretch.
Em Dornbusch kicked off the game with a quick shot after
Madison Langewisch caused a turnover to tally the assist. Dornbusch followed with another goal off a pass by
Jackie McNair to take the 2-0 advantage after five minutes of action. The Vikings attempted two more shots in the scoreless seven minutes before the Buccaneers scored their first goal and evened the score a minute later. Langewisch saw back-to-back on-goal shots, but the score remained 2-2 after the first period.
In the second, Dornbusch grabbed their third successful shot of the night, with McNair credited with the assist eight seconds into the period. The Vikings put up another point with a goal from Langewisch to create a 4-2 game with 14:06 on the clock.
Colleen Chiavola won the draw control, and the Vikings attempted six shots before
Becca Lacina found the back of the net in a woman-up situation. A minute later, Langewisch secured another goal off a pass from McNair to stretch the gap to four with 8:43 remaining in the half. Four minutes later, Langewisch found two more attempts before
Kendall Phelan collected a goal with
Kritika Chitnis earning the assist. In the final two minutes, Langewisch and Lacina found the back of the net in woman-up situations to lead 9-2 entering the halftime break.
Returning to action, Lacina earned two goals in the opening seven minutes of play to make a 11-2 game. The Buccanneers tallied another goal with 7:41 on the lcock, but Dornbusch closed out the third with a goal three minutes later in a woman-up position to lead 12-3.
In the fourth period, Beloit found the back of the net first before Langewisch followed with one for Augie with an assist by Lacina. With 2:41 on the clock, Dornbusch sealed the victory with a solo goal to close the game 14-4.
Dornbusch led the team with five goals, while Lacina and Langewisch followed with four apiece. McNair collected three assists, and Langewish and Lacina won two draw controls.Â
With the win, Augie moves to 5-2 on the season and will be back home to host Marian on March 14.
