CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings softball team split the final day of spring break action on Friday. The Vikings secured a strong 10-0 victory against the North Central Rams before falling 3-2 to the Middlebury Panthers.
Game One
Augie set the tone early, scoring eight in the bottom of the first after a quick three-up, three-out for the Rams. A'Rion Lonergan kicked off the hits with a triple to right center before running home on a bunt by
Lindsay LaVine to gain the early lead. Lavine stole second before getting into scoring position after a groundout.
Madi Bickell brought Lavine home on a single to the left and advanced to third on a double from
Alaina Diaz.
Emma Evans moved the game to 3-0 after a single to the left before Diaz scored on a sacrifice fly.
Maya Viel walked and advanced after Evans stole third during
Marley Behm's at-bat, who doubled to left field and batted two in to create a 6-0 game. In Lonergan's second plate appearance, she doubled to center to bring Behm home before crossing home after LaVine tripled up the middle to move the game 8-0 after one inning.
The Vikings produced another fast defensive showing in the second and scored one in the bottom of the inning with a walk with bases loaded to lead 9-0. In the bottom of the third, Lavine reached base on a fielding error and advanced on a wild pitch and ground out. Bickell singled up the middle to bring Lavine home to claim a 10-0 advantage.Â
Six Vikings collected hits in the win, with Bickell leading with three and Behm batting three runs in. On the mound,
Jenna Becker tallied 51 pitches in the game with three strikeouts and just two hits.Â
Game Two
The Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning to take the early 2-0 lead and tallied another in the third.  Lonergan kicked off the top of the fifth with a single and advanced after a bunt from
Emma Schmidt. Both runners moved up bases on a wild pitch before Lonergan scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 game.
After two scoreless innings, Augie pushed to even the score in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Bickell received four straight balls and had
Mikaylin Hofer pinch run for her. Diaz brought Hofer home after a single to left field to get within one, but Middlebury took the game 3-2.
Seven Vikings secured hits, with Evans leading with three and Lonergan followed with two.Â
With the split record, Augie moves to 3-8 on the season and will be back in action on March 31 to battled Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
