ALBION, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team secured its seventh win of the season, which is good for a single-season best since 2018. The Vikings secured a 17-8 victory over the Albion Brits on Monday to begin spring break.

In the opening period, Augie outscored the Brits 6-1 with Kritika Chitnis finding the back of the net first. Albion followed to tie the game, but the Vikings secured five straight to obtain the early advantage. Madison Langewisch got the offense going with a shot off a pass from Becca Lacina. With 7:58 on the clock, Jackie McNair collected a solo shot, and Lacina grabbed one of his own from Langewisch a minute later. In a woman-up position, McNair shot past the goalie off a pass from Colleen Chiavola to move the game 5-1. Lacina closed the first 15 minutes with a successful shot, with McNair earning the assist. The Brits fired two shots in the second period before Langewisch scored a solo shot at 7:41. Albion put up two more, but Langewisch closed the first half with an unassisted goal to lead 8-5 entering the halftime break.

Returning to action, the Vikings quickly grabbed two from Langewisch and Lacina to double score at 10-5. McNair kept the scoring going with a shot from Chiavola before Chiavola grabbed one of her own three minutes later to create a 12-5 lead heading into the final period.

Both teams were scoreless in the final period until the seven-minute mark when the Brits found the back of the net. McNair scored 20 seconds later off a pass from Lacina, and the teams traded shots once more. In a woman-up situation, Langewisch shot past the goalkeeper. In the final three minutes, the Vikings collected three to close the game with a final score of 17-8. Successful shots from Augie were from Chiavola and two from McNair.

Five Vikings scored in the win, with McNair leading with six goals, while Langewisch had five. Chitnis and Langewisch collected three assists apiece, and Chiavola caused five turnovers.

With the win, Augie moves to 7-3 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday to battle Adrian.
