ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the Adrian Bulldogs on Wednesday by a score of 24-9.
The Bulldogs took the early advantage after two quick goals in the opening three minutes of play.
Kritika Chitnis put Augie on the board off a pass from Jacki McNair to get within one point at 2-1. At 10:26, Adrian collected six consecutive goals to stretch the gap to 8-1.
Becca Lacina closed the first quarter with a successful shot from
Madison Langewisch to move the game to 8-2.
In the second, McNair found the back of the net first before Langewisch grabbed one of her own in a woman-up position. The Bulldogs secured four goals in a minute to create a 12-4 game with 10:19 on the clock. McNair added another goal for the Vikings off a pass from
Ariadna Escobar, but Adrian tallied three. McNair shot past the goalie in a woman-up situation before the Bulldogs closed the first half with two goals to lead 17-6 entering the halftime break.
Returning to action, both teams showed a strong defense in a low-scoring third period. Adrian scored three before
Anna Davison secured a goal in a woman-up situation to move the game 20-7 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the teams traded shots with Lacina tallying both for Augie before the Bulldogs closed the game with two successful shots to seal the 24-9 victory.
Five Vikings scored, with McNair and Lacina grabbing three apiece, while Langewisch won three draw controls and
Rachel Wylie caused four turnovers. In the net,
Eva Karjalahti saved four shots in her 30 minutes in goal.
With the loss, Augie moves to 7-4 on the season and will be back in action on April 4 to open CCIW action at Carthage.
