Women's lacrosse defeated by UW-Eau Claire

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team fell to the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in a high-scoring battle on Friday by a score of 22-12.

Madison Langewisch fired first in the opening period, but UW-Eau Claire immediately drew the score even. The teams traded shots with Becca Lacina earning the goal for the Vikings, but the visitors took the sole advantage at 4-2. Jackie McNair moved the difference to one with 6:01 on the clock before UW-Eau Claire put up two more. McNair closed out the opening 15 minutes of play, but the Blugolds led 6-4. In a low-scoring second period, the visitors outscored Augie 2-1, with the Vikings' lone goal coming from McNair to create an 8-5 goal entering the halftime break. 

Returning to action, UW-Eau Claire found the back of the net three consecutive times to stretch the gap to 11-5. In a woman-up position, Langewisch scored off a pass by Lacina, but the visitors collected two more. In another woman-up play, Langewisch grabbed back-to-back goals at 14-8. The teams rallied points once more with Langewisch tallying another, but UW-Eau Claire led 16-9 heading into the final period. 

The Blugolds outscored Augie 6-3 in the fourth period, with the visitors scoring first. McNair put up another point for the Vikings before UW-Eau Claire grabbed two more. Langewsich found the back of the net off a pass from Kritika Chitnis, and the visitors followed. Lacina put up the final point for Augie with the visitors closing the game with two for a final score of 22-12. 

Langewisch led the team with six goals and four draw controls. In goal, Lanie Cecala had nine saves.

With the loss, Augie moves to 6-3 on the season and will be back in action on March 23 to battle Albion.
