Men's volleyball stumbles against North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. –- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the North Central Cardinals on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 3–1.

The opening set was tightly contested throughout as both teams traded runs early. Augustana jumped ahead behind kills from Alexander Sulewski and Tom Lamb, while Cole Clarke added a service ace to give the Vikings early momentum. North Central responded midway through the set draw even, pushing back against the Viking attack. Augustana continued to push late, with kills from Ryan Huntington and Sulewski keeping the Vikings within striking distance, but the Cardinals managed a late surge to take the opener 25–23.

North Central carried that momentum into the second set, building an early lead while Augustana worked to keep pace. Bryce Lawson provided a spark off the bench with multiple kills, and Colin Schaefer contributed offensively while directing the Viking attack. Kills from Cole Clarke and Sulewski helped close the gap during the middle portion of the set, but the Cardinals maintained their advantage down the stretch to secure another 25–21 win and take a 2–0 match lead.

Augustana answered in the third set with their best set of the night. The Vikings found rhythm early behind kills from Clarke and Lamb, while Lawson continued to provide offensive production. A service ace from Clarke helped shift momentum midway through the frame as Augustana began to pull away. The Vikings remained in control late, with Lamb delivering a key kill before Augustana closed out the set 25–21 to extend the match.

In the fourth set, the teams again battled through several momentum shifts. Early kills from Huntington and Clarke helped keep Augustana close, while Lawson continued to contribute offensively from the outside. The Vikings trimmed the deficit to three late in the set following consecutive Lawson kills and a Lamb finish, but North Central regrouped in the closing rallies to secure the 25–20 set win and the match.

With the loss, Augustana falls to 8–7 overall and 2–4 in CCIW play. Augustana looks to rebound on Wednesday, March 18, when they host Loras at the Roy J. Carver Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
