Baseball blows past Central

MOLINE, Ill. –- The Augustana Vikings baseball team wasted no time setting the tone Saturday afternoon, jumping out to an early lead and cruising to a 9–1 victory over the Central Dutch in their second game of the Augustana Invitational.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Riley Hendren reached on an error before Kaileb Hackman stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to left field, giving Augustana a quick 2–0 advantage.

The Vikings added three more runs in the second inning to extend the lead. AJ Macak started the rally with a single before Zach Quimby doubled down the left-field line to put two runners in scoring position. Lawson Shickel reached on a throwing error that allowed Macak to score, and Ryan Coon followed with an RBI single to bring home Quimby. Hendren capped the inning with an RBI single to plate Shickel and push the Viking lead to 5–0.

Augustana continued to build the advantage in the third inning. Macak worked a walk before Quimby delivered again, blasting a two-run home run to left field. Later in the inning, Christian Clark lined an RBI double to score Shickel before Clark crossed the plate moments later on a wild pitch to make it 9–0.

The Vikings finished with 13 hits in the contest. Hackman and Quimby each drove in two runs, while Clark, Hendren, Coon and Shickel all added RBI in the victory. Blake Nettleton earned the win after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while fanning eight.
