Men's lacrosse slowed at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team fell on the road Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 13–0 decision to Benedictine.

Benedictine struck early, scoring four times in the opening quarter to take control. Augustana's defense settled in as the period progressed, with goalkeeper Hagan Quigley making several early saves to slow the Eagles' momentum and keep the Vikings within reach.

The Eagles added four more goals in the second quarter to extend their lead to 8–0 at halftime. Augustana continued to fight defensively throughout the quarter, with Tommy Wimmers forcing multiple turnovers while the defense worked to clear the ball out of its defensive zone.

Augustana turned in their best frame in the third quarter. The Vikings boasted stout defensive stretches in the quarter, limiting the Eagles to just two goals. Quigley made multiple stops during the quarter, including a pair of saves during a Benedictine man-up opportunity, helping the Vikings fight through heavy defensive pressure.

The Vikings continued to battle in the fourth quarter, finding room to generate offensive chances in transition. Augustana recorded shots from Jack Duffy and Wimmers, but were unable to break through the Eagles defense. Benedictine added three late goals to close out the match.

Quigley finished the afternoon with double-digit saves while facing heavy shot volume, anchoring the Viking defense throughout the match. Wimmers also contributed defensively with caused turnovers and ground balls as Augustana worked to limit Benedictine's opportunities.

The Vikings slip to 1–1 on the season. They return to action Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Earlham.
