How sweep it is! Men's volleyball shuts out Edgewood in home opener

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings secured a convincing non-conference victory over Edgewood on January 27, 2026, sweeping the match in three sets: 25-19, 25-19, 25-21, at CarverCenter.

Edgewood took an early 3-1 lead, but Augustana responded with Alexander Sulewski delivering service aces and kills to help push the Vikings in front and take full advantage of Edgewood errors. Cole Clarke and Ryan Huntington helped finish out mid set volleys, and the Vikings maintained pressure on both sides of the ball. Augustana capitalized on opponent mistakes and closed with a decisive late surge, highlighted by Sulewski and Huntington's key kills, to take the first set 25-19.

The Vikings overcame an early 6-3 deficit in the second set, regrouping with Huntington sparking a counterattack that included forced errors and strong kills to flip momentum in favor of the home team. Clarke and Sulewski added key points, and Tom Lamb's service ace added to the push. Augustana pulled away in the closing moments with even contributions and a stout defense, capping the frame with Tommy Weber's service ace for a 25-19 win and a 2-0 match advantage.

Edgewood competed aggressively in the third set, forcing multiple ties and lead changes through the middle. Augustana stayed composed, surging ahead after the 17-point mark with kills from Sulewski and Clarke driving the run. Huntington added important points, and defensive plays forced Edgewood errors late. The Vikings sealed the 25-21 victory with back-to-back points to complete the sweep and earn a strong home win.
