ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the North Park Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Thorson-Lucken Field. The match also served as Senior Day for Augie.
The home town Vikings found an early spark, striking first in the 13th minute when defender Jordyn Swanson buried a shot off a corner to give Augie the 1-0 lead. Augustana held that advantage into halftime, with goalkeeper Sara Schinker turning away six first-half attempts from North Park.
In the second half, North Park continued to press the attack, ultimately breaking through in the 69th minute as Sofia Svensson evened the score off an assist from Stine Lie. Less than six minutes later, Svensson struck again, this time finishing a feed from Hannah Björkegren to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
Augie battled for an equalizer with late chances from Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez and Alyssa Mowry, but North Park's defense held strong. Schinker finished with 12 saves in goal, keeping Augie within reach throughout the contest.
With the loss, Augustana moves to 3-6-1 overall and 0-1 in CCIW play. The Vikings will be back in action at home next week versus Coe.
