Women's soccer battles to a draw with Coe

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with the Coe Kohawks on Wednesday night at Thorson-Lucken Field.

The Vikings struck first in the 30th minute when Skylar Swanson buried a low shot to the left side of the net, set up by a pass from Abigail Gavigan. Swanson stayed active throughout the night, finishing with a team-high eight shots and three on goal. Coe evened the score just over ten minutes later after a deflection resulted in an own goal, sending the match into halftime tied 1-1.

In the first half, Augustana generated multiple looks at goal, with Alyssa Mowry firing a low effort that was saved in the 31st minute and Allison Gibeau putting another on target shortly after. Caelan Cole also added two attempts as the Vikings outshot the Kohawks 7-4 in the opening 45 minutes.

The second half saw Augie continue to create pressure. Mowry recorded two more shots, while Cole and Swanson each tested the Coe goalkeeper again. Defensively, Sara Schinker anchored the back line with four saves, while Gibeau and Richards held steady in limiting Coe to just four shots on frame.

Overall, Augustana outshot Coe 14-8 and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. Mowry tallied three total shots, Gibeau added one on goal, and Cole contributed two attempts.

With the result, the Vikings move to 3-5-2 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Carroll.
