WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team fell to the Wartburg Knights on Wednesday by a score of 5-1.

Wartburg scored within the first two minutes of the first half to take the early advantage. The Vikings didn't see attempts until 27:04 when Abigail Gavigan missed left. The Knights fired 17 more shots, but didn't increase the score to make a 1-0 game after 45 minutes of play.

In the second period, Wartbug found the back of the net twice in the first five minutes of play to stretch the gap to 3-0. Midway through the half, the Knights tallied another successful shot. Nine minutes later, Jordyn Swanon attempted a shot before Wartburg secured its fifth goal. Gavigan shot the ball high left before Swanson was successful in moving the score to 5-1. Aniela Ehrlicher shot twice, and Swanson tried once more, but did not find the back of the net to conclude the game with a 5-1 score.

Five different individuals attempted shots, with Swanson leading with three. Sarah Schinker saved nine shots in her 57 minutes, while Mary Pietras saved five in her 33 minutes in goal.

With the loss, Augie moves to 2-4-1 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 23, to host Ripon.
