Women's soccer collects win over Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team defeated the Cornell Rams by a score of 3-0 on Friday.

The Vikings offense got off to a good start with 11 shot attempts in the first 23 minutes of play, while holding the Rams to just two. At 24:03, Skylar Swanson found the back of the net to secure the 1-0 advantage.
Augie shot four more attempts before Alyssa Mowry notched a goal off a pass by Samira Khobdeh at 36:04 to stretch the gap to two. Cornell closed the first period with a shot, but Sara Schinker stopped the home team from getting on the board after 45 minutes of play. 

In the second period, Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez kicked the ball out left of the net 29 seconds into action. The Vikings found four more chances before Osorio-Rodriguez secured the team's third goal at 62:30 off a pass by Swanson. Both teams went back and forth for the remainder of the half, with shots for Augie coming from Avery Parker, Osorio-Rodriguez, and Lena Lembcke. The Vikings defense fended off the Rams to secure the road victory 3-0. 

Three different Vikings scored in the win, with Swanson and Parker leading with five shot attempts. Schinker saved five shots in her 90 minutes in goal.

With the win, Augie moves to 1-3-1 on the season and will be back in action to take on Nebraska Wesleyan on the campus of the Cornell Rams.
