GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team defeated the Knox Prairie Fire in seven innings on Wednesday by a score of 17-3.
Augie quickly put up runs in the first inning after a three-run home run by Daniel Mosele and Colton Davis followed with a two-run home run in the second to quickly create a 5-0 game. The scoring outburst continued in the third when Ethan Sosnowski tallied two more runs after the team's third home run of the game before a sacrifice fly by Alec McGinnis moved the gap to 8-0.
In the fourth, Sosnowski brought in three more runs after a double and Charlie Bergin followed with a single to bring him home to build a 13-0 cushion. In the bottom of the inning, Knox crossed home plate three times to cut the deficit to 10.
Sosnowski collected another hit in the fifth to send in a run to cross home plate. In the top of the sixth, Bergin scored on a wild pitch and Ryan Theile and Riley Hendren singled to left field to secure the game's final runs to complete the 17-3 victory.Â
Seven Vikings contributed to the 13 hits in the win, with Sosnowski leading with three and batting six runs in. Jeremy Bergeron earned the win on the mound after three innings pitched and two strikeouts.Â
With the win, Augie sits at 13-10 on the season. The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, April 12 to host a doubleheader versus Illinois Wesleyan.Â
