KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend series at Carthage on Sunday by a score of 13-10.
Carthage grabbed the first two runs of the contest in the second and brought a 2-0 lead into the fourth. Augustana notched its first tallies of the afternoon, taking the lead with a four-spot with the help from three hits and two Firebirds errors.
Alex Simon brought in the first run with an RBI single up the middle before a miscue by Carthage evened the score. Another pair came in on the second error of the innings two batters later to give the Vikings a 4-2 lead. The home team answered with six in the bottom half to flip the game back in their favor at 8-4.
In the sixth, Augie saw its second four-run inning of the game. After Simon and
Daniel Mosele got on via a walk and a double,
Alec McGinnis brought both in with a base hit to inch the Vikings closer.
Kaileb Hackman pulled Augie back even later in the inning with a two-run single, but once again Carthage responded with runs of its own in the bottom half. The Firebirds led 10-8 entering the eighth.
The home team pushed its margin out to five with three more scores in the seventh, but a two-run home run by Hackman in the eighth drew the Vikings closer. Augie saw the bases loaded in the ninth, but could not scratch any across as the Firebirds escaped with the 13-10 win.
Hackman led Augustana with a 3-5 effort at the plate.
With the loss, the Vikings fall to 18-18 overall and 6-11 in the CCIW. The team will be back in action Tuesday vs. Luther.Â
