Women’s lacrosse drops battle to North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team dropped a close battle to the North Central Cardinals on Wednesday by a score of 14-10.

Both teams went back and forth in points, with the Vikings obtaining the first after a successful shot by Colleen Chiavola. North Central put up a point a minute later to tie the game at one apiece, but at 7:35, Madison Langewisch found the back of the net to put Augie up 2-1. After the Cardinals drew even, Chiavola notched her second goal of the night to regain the lead, but North Central closed the first quarter with a goal to make a 3-3 score after 15 minutes of play. 

In the second quarter, Langewisch secured her second goal at 13:34, and the Cardinals followed with one of their own. Straight off the draw, Kyla Painter found the back of the net to regain the 5-4 advantage. North Central tallied two to take the slight upper hand before Langewisch drew the score even at six apiece. The Cardinals grabbed the final goal of the half to lead 7-6 entering halftime. 

Returning to the field, North Central notched three goals to stretch the differential to 10-6. In a woman-up position, Chiavola secured her third of the night, but the Cardinals rallied two more to lead 12-7 heading to the final quarter. In the final period, North Central grabbed the first two goals before Langewsich found the back of the net at 9:15. With 1:17 remaining, Jackie McNair and Kritika Chitnis notched goals to close out the game with a score of 14-10. 

Langewisch led the team with four goals and won two drawn controls. 

With the loss, Augie moves to 5-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, April 26, when they host Carroll for Senior Day.
