FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team secured a big win over the Baruch Bearcats on Friday with a final score of 30-3.
In the first inning, the Vikings found themselves with the bases loaded before Daniel Mosele batted three runs in after a double to left field to grab the early 3-0 lead. Mosele ran home on a sacrifice bunt to move the score to 4-0. Dymitri Kanellakis' RBI triple in the third quickly made it a five-run game after two innings of play.
In the top of the third, Augie blasted seven more runs home, fueled by a Kanellakis double to left to stretch the advantage to 10-0. Kaileb Hackman put up two runs after a double to left to make a 12-0 game and the team followed with five more in the fourth, seeing another double by Hackman to make a 16-0 score. Baruch got on the scoreboard in the bottom half to bring the margin to 17-1.
In the fifth, a walk brought Augie's first run in before Ethan Sosnowski tripled to center to tally three more. Two singles in the sixth brought runs in for the Vikings and a sacrifice fly scored Augie's final run of the frame to extend it out to a 27-1 game. Baruch tallied two more in the bottom of the inning to move the score to 27-3. Both teams remained scoreless in the seventh.Â
In the top of the eighth, Sosnowski and Colton Davis singled to bring runs in before a sacrifice fly scored the Vikings' final run to get the team to 30.Â
As a team Augie tallied 21 hits, Sosnowski leading with four, while Kanellakis also led the way with five runs batted in. Zach DeMarlie earned the win on the mound with three strikeouts.
With the win, the Vikings move to 3-3 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow to battle UT Dallas.
