LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings women's water polo team went 2-0 on Saturday to close out the Claremont Convergence tournament, defeating the Caltech Beavers by a score of 14-1 before knocking off the No. 8 ranked Occidental Tigers in overtime by a final of 9-7.

In game one vs. Caltech, the Vikings saw a 2-0 lead after a low-scoring opening quarter, seeing goals from Charlotte Newport and Jersey Merrick in the first eight minutes of play. The offense picked up in the second for Augie, putting up a five-spot while continuing to hold the Beavers without a point. Five different Vikings notched a goal in the frame, including Abbey Ellis and Lauren Dickinson within the first three minutes and Jorja Neumann to close out the half. Augustana led 7-0 at the break.

Anita Rodgers notched the first goal of the third quarter before Ocean Akau collected a penalty strike to move the margin out to nine. Caltech secured the final tally of the frame to make it a 9-1 score entering the fourth. The Vikings put up five more in the final period to pull away with the 14-1 win. Carli Udovich found the back of the net twice through the final eight minutes of the game, while Emma Blezien also joined in on the scoring for the first time.

Akau, Udovich, Neumann, and Olivia Parry led the balanced attack with two goals apiece, while Lizzie Pelzman stopped 15 shots in net.

In game two vs. the Tigers, the Vikings saw the first and only goal of the opening quarter come from Anita Rodgers less than two minutes into the game. The defensive battle continued into the second, seeing just two goals apiece for a 3-2 lead in favor of Augustana entering the halftime break. Udovich began the frame with a tally before Occidental grabbed its first score of the game around the three-minute mark. The two teams traded goals with under a minute remaining, including one from Newport to keep Augie in the lead.

In the third quarter, the Tigers secured the first two goals to earn their first advantage of the contest before Merrick and Newport earned it back for the Vikings with back-to-back strikes. Occidental sent one in with 27 seconds remaining to even the score at 5-5 entering the fourth. Each team added two more to its total through the final eight minutes, with Newport beginning the period with a point for Augustana. The Tigers regained the lead with consecutive goals, but Waiahuli Akau sent in the equalizer to force overtime. The Vikings out-scored the Tigers 2-0 in the extra session, seeing goals from Kiera Luhrs and Newport to come away with the win.

Newport finished with a game-high four goals, while Susan Palmentera-Reid saved 12 shots to collect the win in net.
