MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest to the Cornell Rams on Wednesday, falling by a score of 18-3.
Cornell snatched the first two goals of the game within the first two minutes of play, but Augie got one back around the 11-minute mark following a strike from
Jake Moore on an assist by
Tommy Wimmers. The Rams answered with a 4-0 scoring run to push their lead out to five before
Wyatt Dosek tallied another for Augie on a pass from
Charley Dore. Cornell added one more point with 1:54 to play to take a 7-2 lead into the second quarter. The home team scored six more times in the second while limiting the Vikings to just one goal. Dore was responsible for the lone score for Augie in the frame. Cornell led 12-3 at the break.
The Rams added five to their total in the second before one final tally in the fourth.Â
Keegan Weir notched 15 saves in net for the Vikings, while Moore was the team leader in shots with six.
Hunter Doppke picked up a team-high four ground balls.
Augie drops to 0-2 with the loss and will play host to Benedictine on Saturday in its home opener.
