DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener against the Clarke Pride on Sunday by a score of 22-7.
The home team had a big opening quarter, out-scoring the Vikings 7-0 in the first 15 minutes to grab the early advantage. Clarke's scoring run reached nine early in the second quarter, but an unassisted by goal by
Tommy Wimmers put the Vikings on the board. Five minutes later,
Jake Moore notched the second goal of the frame to keep the gap in single figures, but the Pride secured the final two tallies of the opening half to take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break.
Clarke out-scored Augustana 6-1 in the third quarter, with the lone strike for the Vikings coming from
Charley Dore around the seven-minute mark. Augie had the upper hand through the final 15 minutes of play, posting a slight 4-3 advantage in fourth quarter to close out the game at its 22-7 final.
Wyatt Dosek began a streak of four straight goals scored for the team around the 12-minute mark before
Jack Sergeant notched his first of the season at 7:12. Moore and Dosek accounted for the final two tallies of the game for Augie to give each of them multi-goal efforts.
Keegan Weir saved 12 shots in net for the Vikings, while Moore and Sergeant were responsible for the two assists for the team.
Augustana will be back in action Wednesday at Cornell.
