EAU CLAIRE, Wis. --  The Augustana Vikings women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener against the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds on Saturday by a score of 21-4. 

UW-Eau Claire scored five in the first nine minutes of the first quarter to obtain the early advantage. At 5:59, Elena Bechard scored Augie's first goal with a pass from Madison Langewisch to make it a 5-1 score. The Blugolds notched six more goals in the final five minutes of the quarter to go up 11-1 score after 15 minutes of play. 

In the second quarter, UW-Eau Claire scored two to stretch the game to 13-1 and Becca Lacina followed with her first collegiate goal at 6:02. The Blugolds put up two more before Anna Erickson notched a goal with 26 seconds remaining from Lacina to make a 15-3 score heading into halftime.

Returning to the field, UW-Eau Claire scored five times, while holding Augie scoreless to enter the final 15 minutes of play. In a low-scoring final quarter, the Blugolds grabbed an early goal to create an 18-point gap. At 11:48, Langewisch obtained her first goal of the season and both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game. 

Four Vikings scored in the season opener, while Dylon Karjalahti saved nine shots on goal.

With the loss, Augie moves to 0-1 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday, February 25 for their home opener against MSOE.
