ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team fell 4–1 to the Wheaton Thunder on Saturday afternoon at Thorson-Lucken Field.
Augustana jumped out early, capitalizing on their first chance of the match. In the fourth minute, Alyssa Mowry connected on a high shot to the right side off an assist from Skylar Swanson, giving the Vikings an early 1–0 advantage. The Vikings continued to pressure throughout the opening half, earning a corner and several set pieces that tested Wheaton's defense.
Wheaton responded with a goal midway through the second half to even the match, then added three more in a 15-minute span to take control late. Despite the scoreline, goalkeeper Sara Schinker turned in a standout performance for Augustana, registering five saves while making several athletic stops that kept the Vikings within reach throughout the contest.
Samira Khobdeh and Paige Bingen each added two shots for the Vikings, while Mowry led with two on target. Caelan Cole and Jordyn Swanason each logged 90 minutes apiece on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Augustana moves to 3–8–2 overall and 0–4 in CCIW play. The Vikings will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a conference road matchup at Illinois Wesleyan.
