Women's soccer drops battle against Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team fell to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Wednesday by a score of 3-0.

The Titans quickly saw offensive action with five shots in the first 20 minutes. Jordyn Swanson collected the first shot for Augie, with Caelan Cole following with a shot on goal. Four minutes later, Skylar Swanson shot to the bottom right of the net, which Illinois Wesleyan stopped. Allison Gibeau secured an on-goal attempt before Alyssa Mowry closed out the first half with another shot on goal. Sara Schinker stopped five shots in the first period to get the Titans scoreless after 45 minutes of play.    

Returning from the halftime break, Ximena Osorio-Rodriguez found a shot to the bottom left before Illinois Welseyan put up their first goal of the night. Four Vikings took a chance at the net, but the Titans tallied another at 75:49 in the second period. Aniela Ehrlicher saw a shot at 76:14, and the home team secured another successful shot five minutes later to stretch the gap to 3-0. S. Swanson found the final shot from both teams, but the game concluded with a 3-0 final score.

Eight Vikings attempted shots in the game, with S. Swanson leading with three, and J. Swanson and Cole collected two. Shinker finished the night with a career-high of 17 saves and 35 shots faced. 

With the loss, Augie moves to 3-9-2 on the season and 0-5 in conference play. The Vikings will return to action on Oct. 18 for a non-conference matchup against Dubuque.
