ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team dropped a 4–0 contest to the Wheaton Thunder on Saturday evening at Thorson-Lucken Field.
Wheaton struck first in the fifth minute and added another midway through the first half from an Augustana own goal to take a 2–0 lead into the break. Augustana battled to find rhythm, with Javi Landin creating multiple chances in the attacking third. Landin fired three shots on goal and constantly applied pressure through the midfield, forcing turnovers and sparking transition opportunities. Jacob Roffman added an active presence on the left wing, pushing the pace and sending in crosses to challenge the Thunder defense.
In the second half, the Vikings continued to fight for chances, registering five shots and earning a late corner kick opportunity. Landin and Fer Cuahquentzi each saw attempts turned away by the Wheaton keeper. Defensively, goalkeeper William Gabrielsson was tested throughout the night but stood tall, recording eight saves while defending numerous corners and crosses.
Nico Linaje and Jon-Philip Tiller anchored the Viking back line, logging 90 minutes each and helping organize against a fast-paced Thunder attack. Diego San Pedro and Andres Gordilla contributed valuable minutes in the midfield, connecting passes and keeping an offensive presence.
With the loss, Augustana moves to 3–5–3 overall and 1–2–1 in CCIW play. The Vikings return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, for a conference home matchup with Illinois Wesleyan.
