Women's soccer battles late but falls to Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team fell in a close road contest on Saturday, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Carroll Pioneers.

Carroll struck first late in the opening half, converting in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The hosts extended their advantage in the 79th minute with a second goal, but the Vikings quickly answered. Just over a minute later, Alyssa Mowry found the back of the net on a low strike off a Skylar Swanson attempt that came off the post to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Despite a late push, Augustana was unable to find the equalizer, with the Carroll defense holding on to secure the one-goal victory.

Mowry paced the Viking attack with the team's lone goal and recorded one of Augie's three total shots. Allison Gibeau and Swanson each added an attempt, with Gibeau's going high and Swanson's hitting the post. Goalkeeper Sara Schinker turned in a strong performance, allowing just 2 goals on the afternoon while facing 25 total shots.

With the loss, Augustana falls to 3-6-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Vikings will return home for their next matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. against North Central.
