ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals on Saturday in a 7-0 drudging of the Cornell Rams.
Liesl Whitener was the first to score for Augustana, sending one into the net off a pass from
Abby DeGustino just seven minutes in. The 1-0 lead remained intact for the next 17 minutes until
Mary Baker connected on an unassisted strike to double up the Rams 2-0. Four minutes later,
Alyssa Mowry notched her fourth goal of the season on a double assist from Whitener and
Carson Kekelik to bring the margin out to three. Augie led 3-0 after 45 minutes and out-shot Cornell 10-1 in the opening half.
Whitener again was the first to score to begin the second, this time notching her ninth of the year just two minutes in. Her 10th goal of the season and third of the game came just six minutes later, pushing the ball into the back of the net on an assist by
Paige Bingen. The three goals for Whitener mark her second straight hat trick. Augie remained busy offensively, securing twice more over the span of the next four minutes.
Samira Khobdeh converted a penalty kick after Mowry drew a foul in the box, followed by Baker's second goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute. The two teams went without a tally the rest of the way as Augie coasted to the 7-0 victory.
Augustana out-shot Cornell 23-1 in the win, led by seven from Whitener and four from Baker. A total of 11 Vikings tallied at least one shot.
With the win, Augustana's unbeaten streak reaches six and its win streak now sits at five. The team will be back in action on Tuesday for a road game at Kalamazoo.
