Women's soccer suffers first loss of season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Tuesday, falling on the road to the Kalamazoo Hornets by a score of 3-1.

Augustana got on the board first and broke a scoreless tie in the 17th minute on a Carson Kekelik goal from Mary Baker. The 1-0 margin for the Vikings remained intact for the next 25-plus minutes until the Hornets pushed one into the goal to even the score right before half. Kalamazoo out-shot Augustana 7-2 through the first 45 minutes of play.

The Hornets went out in front 10 minutes into the second half and added one more to their total later in the 84th minute to claim the 3-1 victory. Both teams saw a high number of shots in the second, with the Vikings upping their first-half total by three with five in the second. Three of the team's seven shots were on target, with Kekelik and Baker combining for five attempts. Sara Schinker stopped three shots in goal.

With the loss, Augie drops to 6-1-1 on the season. The team will begin CCIW play on Saturday at North Park.
