Women's soccer wraps up road trip with third straight win

RIPON, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team capped of its fourth straight game on the road on Sunday with a win, defeating the Ripon Red Hawks by a score of 3-1.

Augustana controlled the ball often in the opening half, sending 12 shots towards the goal while holding Ripon without an attempt. Despite the lopsided number in shots, the two teams played scoreless for over 27 minutes until the Vikings notched their first tally. Samira Khobdeh put Augie on the board after pushing in a rebounded ball that hit off the crossbar from a free kick by Liesl Whitener. Neither team found the back of the net the rest of the half and Augustana took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Ripon evened the score after Augie was credited with an own goal just minutes into the new period. The 1-1 tie only lasted three minutes as the Vikings earned the go-ahead and game-winning tally on Carson Kekelik's second score in as many days. Nearly 10 minutes later, Allison Gibeau added on an unassisted goal to extend the advantage out to 3-1. The two-goal margin remained intact the rest of the way.

The Vikings out-shot the Red Hawks 22-2 in the win, led by five from Whitener and three from Paige Bingen

With the win, Augustana improves to 4-0-1 on the season and extend its winning streak to three games. The team will return home for their next game on Wednesday against Monmouth.
