PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's soccer team earned its second straight victory and second shutout of the season on Saturday, defeating the Lakeland Muskies on the road by a score of 2-0.
The first half saw a high number of shots for the Vikings, collecting three in the first seven minutes and five total in the first 15. Augie then went over 10 minutes without an attempt at the goal until Carson Keklik broke a scoreless tie with her first goal of the season from 12 yards out. The two teams played without another score for the remainder of the first half and the Vikings took their 1-0 lead into intermission. Augustana out-shot Lakeland 9-3 in the opening 45 minutes, with seven of those coming on target. All three attempts for the Muskies came within a seven-minute stretch early on and were saved by
Sara Schinker.
Augie saw another onslaught of shot attempts through the first 15 minutes of the second half, sending four toward the goal. In the 61st minute,
Liesl Whitener doubled the Vikings' advantage with a tally off a pass from
Paige Bingen. Both offenses simmered down the rest of the way, with each team mustering just one shot apiece over the final 30 minutes of action as the game concluded in its 2-0 final. The Vikings out-shot Lakeland 6-3 in the second half and 15-6 for the game.
Three players notched multiple shot attempts for Augie, led by Whitener's five. Schinker and
Mary Pietras combined for five saves in net.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 3-0-1 on the season. The team will be back in action tomrrow at Ripon.
