ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's soccer team secured their first win of the 2024 season against the Knox Prairie Fire on Tuesday by a final score of 3-0.

Carlos Fernandez took the first shot in the game before Knox attempted two of their own. Derek Dedume notched the first goal for the team in the 2024 season after the Prairie Fire tried to pass to their goalkeeper and Dedume swooped in to put Augie in the lead 1-0 after 19 minutes of action. The Vikings had four more shots in the half to Knox's one and the 1-0 lead for Augie remained intact at the halftime break.

Returning from the halftime break, both teams attempted a shot before Jimmie Kucaba scored off a pass from Dedume to increase the difference to 2-0. Three minutes later, Fernandez kicked the ball from the left corner that set up a header into the back of the net from Ben Statz to make it a 3-0 score. Augie's defense fended off the Prairie Fire for the remainder of the matchup to seal the first victory of the 2024 season by a score of 3-0.

Ignacio Alberola earned the win in net with four saves, while Dedume had a team high three shots. The Vikings out-shot the Prairie Fire 11-9 in the victory.

With the win, Augie moves to 1-1-1 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, September 14 to battle Fontbonne on the road.
