WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team used a late-game push to defeat the Carroll Pioneers on Tuesday by a 7-4 score.
The Vikings scored first in the top of the second inning after a sacrifice fly from Daniel Mosele brought Colton Davis home, but Carroll followed with a run of their own to even the score. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Pioneers tallied another to take a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth, Augie put up three more runs after Dymitri Kanellakis singled to bring one home and crossed home after a single by Alec McGinnis. Ethan Sosnowski brought the last run in after a double through the left side to take a 4-2 lead. The Vikings secured another in the seventh inning after Cole Green ran home due to a sacrifice fly.
Mosele and Green advanced home after a pair of walks in the top of the ninth to extend the score out to 7-2. Carroll threatened with a rally after scoring ninth in the bottom half, but Augie held on for the 7-4 win.
Alex Simon, McGinnis, and Green led the Vikings with two hits in the win, while McGinnis batted two in. Cameron Miller earned the win on the mound after pitching five innings in relief.
With the win, Augie moves to 16-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow in Chicago for the third game against North Park at 5 p.m.
