BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team dropped its CCIW opener on Saturday, falling to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 22-3.
The Titans got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first 11 points, all coming in the first period. Augie was the first to score to kick off the second, seeing a strike from
Brady Holtz find the back of the net. Illinois Wesleyan answered with the final three tallies of the quarter to bring a 14-1 lead into halftime.Â
For the second straight quarter, Augustana scored first to begin the third as
Elijah Graesser scored after five minutes of scoreless play to start the half. Four more goals from the home team ensued before the Vikings saw a full-field shot from
Gus Magnusson go into the net. Illinois Wesleyan grabbed the final five tallies to close out the 23-3 win.
Caiden McCann was the team leader in caused turnovers with three to go with five ground balls, while Magnusson stopped 22 shots in net and had eight ground balls as well.
With the loss, Augie drops to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in conference. The team will be back in action next Saturday at Elmhurst.
