Baseball drops two games against North Park

MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings dropped a pair of games on Saturday to the North Park Vikings by scores of 8-3 and 10-9.

In game one, the Vikings were first on the board in the bottom of the second on a walk to Charlie Bergin with the bases loaded. Grant Biggins crossed home plate after Michael Aragon was hit by a pitch, followed by Cole Green bringing in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 score. North Park answered with three of their own in the top of the third and tallied two more in the fourth. Both teams remained scoreless until the visiting Vikings raked in another in the sixth and ended the game with another tally in the seventh to conclude the first game by a final of 8-3.

Augie then dropped game two in 11 innings by a final of 10-9. The Vikings went out in front first after an RBI double by Alex Simon, but North Park responded with eight straight runs over the next three innings. Augie batted another run home in the bottom of the fifth after a ground out by Alec McGinnis brought one in.

After North Park snatched another in the sixth, Augie inched closer with a three-spot in the bottom half. Following a walk and a single, Ethan Sosnowski drove in the first run with a single to right field. An error by the visitors accounted for the second score of the frame before McGinnis brought in the third with a sac fly.

In the seventh, the Vikings stormed back to even the score at 9-9. A two-run single from Bergin brought Augustana within two, followed by a Daniel Mosele single to left that resulted in an error that sent home the next two. The two teams played a scoreless eighth and ninth to move the game to extras, but North Park prevailed in the 11th to seal the 10-9 victory.

Bergin and Mosele tallied two hits apiece in the game, with McGinnis, Bergin, and Mosele also collecting two runs batted in.

With the two losses, Augie moves to 15-9 on the season and 2-4 in conference play. The Vikings will travel to Chicago, Ill. tomorrow for the third and final game of the series.
