ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team fell to the No. 5 Loras Duhawks on Wednesday by a final score of 3-0.
Augie took an early 4-1 lead in the opening set, but the Duhawks fought back to tie the game at 6-6. Both teams tied 12 more times until Loras broke away with the final three points to take the first set 25-23. Augustana never strayed further than two points through the first frame.
In a neck-and-neck second set, both teams drew even six times before Augie secured three consecutive points to take the 9-6 lead. The Vikings held the lead until Loras caught up at 15-15, but a 4-1 run put Augie back on top. The two teams continued to go back and forth, with the Vikings facing set points three times and the Duhawks twice. Loras grabbed the final two points to steal the second by a score of 30-28.
The third set started with a 5-2 run from the Vikings, who maintained the lead until Loras evened the score at 14. Both teams followed with six draws before the Duhawks closed out the game with a 5-1 run to take the third set 25-21.
Aidan Bolen led the Vikings with 14 kills, while Sean Carlson followed with 12. Colin Schaefer had 46 assists, Max Sellers had 12 digs, and Ben Schultz and Ty Heater each had a solo block.
With the loss, Augie moves to 18-5 on the season and 5-4 in conference play. The Vikings will hit the road for the final regular season match of the season against No. 7 Carthage on Saturday.
