KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team fell in its final match of the regular season on Saturday, defeated by the No. 7 Carthage Firebirds on the road in straight sets.
The two teams went back and forth in the opening set, finding themselves tied at 16-16. A solo block by
Ben Schultz put Augie out in front, but three straight from the Firebirds moved the advantage back to the home team. The Vikings pulled within a point on two occasions, but the Firebirds closed out the game with the final four points to take the opener by a score of 25-20.
Carthage was the first to 10 points in the second set and built a six-point advantage at 14-8 moments later. The Vikings were unable to get the deficit under four points as the Firebirds wrapped up the second with a 25-19 final. Carthage sealed the match win following a 25-19 set three victory.
Aidan Bolen finished with 10 kills to lead Augie, while Schultz had five on .556 hitting.Â
With the loss, Augustana drops to 18-6 overall and 5-5 in the CCIW. The team will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will return to Kenosha on Wednesday to face Carthage in the CCIW semifinals.
