NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's lacrosse team was defeated on the road by the North Central Cardinals on Tuesday, falling by a score of 30-10.
North Central notched the first four tallies of the game before
Elijah Graesser got the Vikings on the board at the 7:44 mark with an unassisted strike. The Cardinals added five more before the end of the first on their way to a 9-2 advantage after 15 minutes of action.
Brady Holtz accounted for the other point for Augie in the frame.Â
Both teams had their highest scoring quarters of the game in the second, with the Cardinals out-scoring the Vikings 12-5 to take a 21-7 lead into the break. Holtz scored the first point for Augustana in the second on a pass from
Carson Ghys prior to Ghys finding the back of the net himself. The Vikings enjoyed a 3-1 spurt to close the half, seeing a tally by
Jack Connolly before consecutive goals from Holtz. North Central pulled away further in the second half with a 9-3 margin through the final two quarters. Holtz and Graesser combined for the final three goals for the Vikings.
Holtz led the team with six goals, while Graesser added two goals and two assists.
Trevor Herman finished as the team's leader in ground balls in five and
Gus Magnusson ended his night in goal with 22 saves.Â
With the loss, Augustana falls to 4-9 on the season and 1-3 in the CCIW. The team will return home to face Carthage on Saturday.
