ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team swept the North Park Vikings on Saturday, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16.
The Vikings secured the first three points of the first set and later ran away with a six-point lead after a 4-0 run. An attack error by the visiting Vikings moved the gap to as many as nine and another error by North Park closed out the first set with a final score of 25-17.
North Park grabbed the first point in the second set, but Augie followed with four of their own. Augustana doubled the score after an attack error by the visiting Vikings moved the game to 10-5. Three consecutive errors by North Park then moved the difference to nine before Augie collected the final two points to take the 10-point win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Augie secured the first two points via a kill by Ben Schultz and an error by North Park. A kill by Aidan Bolen doubled the score before a 5-0 run made an eight-point difference. Augustana stretched the scoring out to nine after back-to-back errors from North Park and a kill from Colin Schaefer sealed the sweep with a 25-16 win.
Bolen and Zach Moreano led the Vikings in the win with 10 kills, while Schaefer had 24 assists. Bolen also had 10 digs, while Max Sellers had eight. Schultz and Moreano each collected two blocks.
With the win, Augie improves to 18-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference play. The team has also clinched a spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament for the first time since 2021. The Vikings will remain at home to host No. 4 Loras on Wednesday for their final home match of the season.
