Baseball earns series win over Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings baseball team picked up the series win over the Elmhurst Bluejays on Saturday, winning game three by a score of 10-1.

After the Bluejays notched the opening run of the contest in the first, Augie answered with three runs in the top half of the second. Three straight hits to begin the frame resulted in the first run, later followed by an RBI single to center from Charlie Bergin to give the Vikings the lead. Daniel Mosele's sacrifice fly put Augustana out in front by a score of 3-1 after two innings of play.

Three scoreless innings ensued, but the Vikings broke open the game in the top of the sixth with a six-spot. Colton Davis and Alec McGinnis brought in the first two tallies with run-scoring singles to the outfield before Mosele cashed in a bases-loaded triple to move the differential to seven. Mosele crossed home plate after Cole Green's infield single the next at-bat to cap off the six-run frame. Riley Fuller added the team's final run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

Zach DeMarlie was dominant on the mound for Augustana in the win, allowing just three base runners after giving up the run in the opening inning. He finished the contest with 11 strikeouts and did not walk a batter through eight innings of work. Cameron Miller shut the door with a scoreless ninth inning to complete the win.

The Vikings out-hit the Bluejays 10-5 on Saturday, led by Davis' 3-4 effort and two hits each from Grant Biggins and McGinnis. Mosele led all players with four runs batted in.

With the win, Augustana improves to 15-6 on the season and 2-1 in the CCIW. The team will return home on Wednesday to host Millikin at 6 p.m.
