BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's volleyball team swept the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Sunday, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-19.
In the first set, Augie erased an early deficit with a 4-0 run to quickly double up Illinois Wesleyan by a score of 6-3. The Vikings held their lead throughout the remainder of the set, seeing a lead of as many as six before a 7-1 run helped them close the opening game with a 25-16 final.
Augie kicked off the second set with a 6-1 run and stretched the lead to as many as eight on two different occasions. Illinois Wesleyan inched back and made it a three-point differential at 18-15, but Augustana responded with four in a row to build separation. The Vikings took the second set after a service error from the Titans to go up 2-0 in the match.
Back-to-back kills from Aidan Bolen secured the first two points of the third set and the two teams continued to fight back-and-forth up to a 13-12 lead for the Vikings. Augie pulled away for good with the game's next five points and extended its lead out to seven before a match-sealing kill from Sean Carlson gave the team its second straight sweep.
Bolen led the Vikings in the win with 10 kills, while Carlson followed with nine and Ben Schultz and Zach Moreano each had eight. Colin Schaefer had 31 assists and eight digs alongside Bolen, while Ty Heater finished with six blocks.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 17-4 on the season and 4-3 in conference play. Augie will return home on March 30 to battle North Park for the second time this season.
